4 Week Watercolor Painting Class for Adult Students

Explore the art of watercolor painting in a relaxed and supportive afternoon class designed especially for adult beginners at The Branford Art Studio.

Led by Shoreline watercolor artist Jody Lynn, this beginner watercolor course introduces students to the essential techniques needed to feel comfortable and confident working with watercolor. Jody brings more than 20 years of watercolor teaching experience and has previously taught at The Branford Art Studio. We are excited to welcome her back to the Studio this fall.

During this hands-on course, students will learn how to work with watercolor paints, brushes, paper, and water while exploring foundational techniques such as washes, color mixing, layering, brush control, creating texture, and developing light and depth. Jody will provide demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual instruction to help each student progress at their own pace.

This afternoon watercolor class is perfect for adults who are completely new to watercolor as well as artists who would like to revisit the fundamentals in an encouraging studio setting. No previous watercolor painting experience is required.

Spend your Wednesday afternoons discovering a creative new skill, meeting other local artists, and experiencing the unique beauty of watercolor painting with an experienced Shoreline instructor.

• HB or #2 Pencil
• Drawing Pad
• Kneaded Eraser
• A selection of 3 brushes: 6, 8, 12 and/or 14 round watercolor brushes. Natural fibers are best, but can be pricey. The Princeton Velvet Touch Rounds are a good, affordable choice for synthetic watercolor brushes. When choosing a round brush, make sure the tip has a good point, and there are no stray hairs or bristles.
• Container for water
• A mixing tray or plastic plate
• A standard set of watercolors in tubes, not cakes, containing primary and secondary colors
• Standard Arches brand watercolor paper pad 11″ x 14″.  Other brands are acceptable, but Arches is most common.
